A Journey of Discipleship
The Fixed Points Navigator has been designed as a guide for the inner journey of Christian disciples. Together, we focus on the Fixed Points of Christian faith and practice: studying the Scriptures, engaging in corporate prayer and serving side-by-side in mission. Contained in the Navigator is a Bible study program (designed to cover the entire Bible in one or two years) and a prayer guide, which will allow us to lift our prayers to God with one voice while listening to his Word with one Spirit. Readings will not be appointed for Sundays or holidays to allow for reflection upon communal activities associated with these special days.
In the Navigator, biblical texts are divided along literary and thematic lines to place a greater emphasis on the message of entire narrative units. It is our deepest belief that the Bible contains more than a basketful of ideas concerning the Divine. Rather, theScriptures form a continuing witness to the acts of God through the history of his creation and lives of his people. As such, we have sought to maintain a balance between an even division of the daily readings and a reflective study which takes the literary and thematic natures of the texts seriously. The central divisions will be the writings of the New Testament, the Witnesses to Israel’s History (the Torah and other historical writings of Israel), the Prophets and the Writings (taken in part from the Jewish divisions of the Hebrew Bible).
